Faculty Seed Grants Program
The Abess Center announces its Faculty Seed Grants Program, aimed at stimulating and supporting the efforts of interdisciplinary teams of UM faculty. Program members are encouraged to develop environmental research projects concerning the interaction of science and policy, and attract extra-mural funding to carry out the projects.

Fellows Program
The Abess Center also provides the Fellows Program for UM faculty. The purpose of the Fellows Program is to encourage interdisciplinary research on environmental issues concerning the interaction of science and public policy. The Program also seeks to create a dynamic environment for a collegial intellectual exchange on an interdisciplinary basis.
Research Proposals
The Center's research agenda will constantly evolve to accommodate new faculty thinking and initiatives. The Center encourages and supports projects that adopt an ecosystem-wide focus, and are developed by faculty teams across disciplinary lines. Research proposals for which funding is being sought include:
- National parks and preserves in tropical countries (e.g., forest, savanna, and marine habitats)
- Invasive and exotic species
- Effects of rapid growth on air quality, respiratory health, and the environment
- Saving reefs across international barriers
- Interaction of the urban boundary and the Everglades natural system
- "Green cities"
