The Future of Energy
With oil and gas still the world’s dominant sources of energy, systems of the future will need to evolve to meet increasing energy demands and stringent environmental and social constraints. That was the topic of the discussion, “Energy Choices, Energy Future,” on Tuesday, February 12, on the Coral Gables campus, when a top executive and geophysicist from a major oil company examined different paths that society and companies might choose as gas and oil options become less viable.
Richard Sears, vice president of Shell International E&P, Inc. and a visiting scientist at MIT, discussed the scale and complexity of future energy challenges. His lecture, held in the School of Communication, was sponsored by the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science and the Leonard and Jayne Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy.
